Oakland County Unveils New Podcast Series
Pontiac, MI, February 7, 2007 - Oakland County today announced the launch of a new series of informational podcasts featuring topics of interest to people who live, work, play, and do business in Oakland County. The new offering is part of the County's ongoing eGovernment initiative.
A podcast is a digital recording that is distributed on the Internet. Podcasts are similar to broadcast radio programs, except that you choose when, where, and how to listen to podcasts.
Citizens can listen to Oakland County podcasts on the County's web site or by downloading the podcasts to a portable MP3 player. An online subscription option allows citizens to automatically receive new County podcasts as soon as they are published. Visit www.oakgov.com/podcast and follow the simple on-screen instructions to get started, and hear more about Oakland County's newest service, Wireless Oakland.
The County plans to produce new podcasts on a regular basis. Each podcast will cover a different topic, including new services, programs, seasonal activities, special events and other news.
"Podcasts are yet another technological advancement that Oakland County is using to be even more responsive to citizens. This is a wonderful way to let everyone know about all the great things happening in Oakland County, and I'm very pleased to be providing this new resource," said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.
Oakland County CIO and Deputy County Executive Phil Bertolini said, "Podcasts are one of the best new ways to communicate with our citizens, and we want to take full advantage of this exciting technology. Our podcasts make County government more accessible to more people, and we're happy to be able to offer this service."
Oakland County is the fourth most digitally advanced county in America among counties with populations of 500,000 or more, according to the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties. Oakland County's eGovernment initiative uses state-of-the-art technology to bring government together with citizens, businesses and educational communities.
