Oakland County Wins Statewide IT Collaboration Award

Pontiac, Michigan, October 18, 2007 – Oakland County has been honored with the Michigan Excellence in Technology Award for Best IT Collaboration at the Michigan Digital Government Summit held in Lansing.

Oakland County received the award for creating an interactive community-oriented policing and public emergency management web site for Canton Township (Wayne County).  http://www.cantonpublicsafety.org/

The Canton Department of Public Safety web site is noteworthy because it highlights Oakland County’s ability to apply its technology resources for regional benefit outside Oakland County.

“Criminal activity and public safety concerns are not limited by geographical community boundaries.  Oakland County’s effort to prevent and reduce crime in the region has a positive affect on everyone, no matter where they live,” said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.

“This award recognizes Oakland County’s commitment to the smart use of technology that benefits all citizens.  We’re especially proud to be recognized as one of the top government collaborators in the state of Michigan,” said Phil Bertolini, Oakland County CIO and Deputy County Executive.

Through its CLEMIS Community CrimeWatch program, Oakland County provides Canton Public Safety with the communication tools they need to immediately publish time-sensitive information about local crimes and citizen safety information by neighborhood.

CLEMIS is Oakland County’s regional consortium of criminal justice and public safety agencies.  More information is available at http://www.clemis.org

The Michigan Excellence in Technology Awards Program was established to salute IT professionals in Michigan state and local government organizations for their dedication, hard work and contributions.  Categories recognize leadership, innovation, collaboration and stellar achievements by state and local governments.
