Oakland County Ranked No. 2 in Top 10 Digital County Governments in America
Pontiac, Michigan, July 21, 2008 Oakland County has been named the second most digitally advanced county in America among counties with populations of 500,000 or more. The honor was bestowed upon Oakland by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties, in an annual ranking of more than 3,000 U.S. county governments.
All county governments in the nation were invited to participate in the 2008 Digital County Survey, an annual study focusing on the technology innovations of the best governments. Counties were ranked on more than 100 measurements and data points covering such areas as online delivery, infrastructure, architecture and governance models. Only San Diego County (California) scored a higher ranking than Oakland. Oakland tied for second place with Anne Arundel County (Maryland).
Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson said, Technology is woven into the very fabric of everything we do. We use technology to help citizens, businesses, and governments improve their access to vital County data. Our goal has always been to provide the best service possible so our customers can conduct their business online rather than standing in line.
Oakland County Deputy County Executive and CIO Phil Bertolini said, "By working to produce collaborative enterprise technology applications that make the best use of resources, we are continually able to save Oakland County taxpayers money. Our philosophy is Build it once, pay for it once, and everybody benefits. This is the basis of our success with integrated eGovernment programs that benefit County residents, businesses, and local community governments.
