Oakland County Scores 12th Straight National Budget Award

Pontiac, MI, July 29, 2008 For the 12th consecutive time, the Oakland County Department of Management and Budget, Fiscal Services Division, has captured the prestigious Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

Oakland County is one of only seven counties out of 82 in Michigan and one of 189 out of more than 3,000 nationally to be accorded this honor.

This award is particularly rewarding because we were able to achieve it at a time when, because of tight budget constraints affecting local government, the need for clear, meaningful, useful budget and financial information for citizens and policy makers is more crucial than ever, said Tim Soave, manager of the Fiscal Services Division.

The GFOA guidelines for earning this award is based on how well the budget being presented serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operating guide and a communications device.

This award is further proof that Oakland Countys financial ship of state is being piloted by a crew of dedicated, professional and very talented men and women, said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson.  The citizens of this great county should sleep very soundly at night knowing that their hard earned tax dollars are in very capable hands.

The Government Finance Officers Association is a non-profit professional associate serving 17,500 government finance professionals throughout North America.
