The Building Authority, established by Public Act 31 of 1948, under section 2 incorporated by county, city, township, or village shall be directed and governed by a commission of 3 members: one elected by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners; 1 elected by the legislative body of the city, township, or village; and 1 jointly elected by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners and the legislative body of the city, township, or village.

Building Authority responsibilities entail acquiring, furnishing, equipping, owning, improving, enlarging, operating and maintaining a building or buildings, automobile parking lots or structures, recreational facilities, stadiums, and the necessary site or sites, together with appurtenant properties and facilities necessary or convenient for the effective use of the facilities, for use for any legitimate public purpose of the county, city, village, or township. 

For purposes of this act, the development of a qualified facility pursuant to the federal facility development act, Act No. 275 of the Public Acts of 1992, being sections 3.931 to 3.940 of the Michigan Compiled Laws, or the Federal Data Facility Act, is considered a legitmate public purpose of a county or city if that county or city makes a determination that such a facility would result in economic development in that county or city.

Mileage reimbursement is provided by the county.  The Building Authority meets on the 2nd Wednesday of every month.
