Housing Counseling Program

Oakland County's Housing Counseling unit promotes and protects the interests of housing consumers. Free, confidential housing services are available regarding: 

• Resolving mortgage and property tax delinquency, default and foreclosure
  
  
• Reverse mortgages to allow seniors to stay in their home and maintain a decent lifestyle
  
  
• Tenant and landlord rental housing issues such as evictions and security deposit law
  
  
• Protection under fair housing laws
  
  
• Government subsidies for rent and/or purchase
  
  
• Non-government subsidies for low cost housing and assistance with security deposits, utility payments, and/or back rent
  
  
• Emergency shelters, job training and non-profit and government agencies
  
  
• Homeownership opportunities for low income, disabled and minority families
  
  
• Home buyer education
  
  
• Credit repair and financial management
  
  
• Affirmatively further fair housing by identifying barriers and setting goals to overcome the impediments
