Two Wastewater Treatment Facilities Win Top National Awards Again!

Oakland County, Michigan (August 21, 2008)

For the third year in a row, the Commerce Township Wastewater Treatment Plant has won the top performance award from the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). At the same time, the Walled Lake-Novi Wastewater Treatment Plant won the top prize for the second year in a row.

It was announced today that both facilities were awarded the prestigious Gold Peak Performance Award, which was given in recognition of their 100 percent compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit, for calendar year 2007.

These two facilities have consistently operated at a very high level of excellence, said Drain Commissioner John P. McCulloch. Last year I said I was extremely pleased with the conscientious professionalism displayed by the crews working at these two facilities. I said it was a remarkable achievement. But for both of them to repeat that honor again this year is simply extraordinary.

NACWA Executive Director Ken Kirk explained that the Peak Performance Award recognizes public wastewater treatment facilities for uncompromising compliance with clean water standards.
