GIS training classes
Fundamentals of GIS. This class is generally taught every other month on the fourth Wednesday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon.
This is an introductory half-day course that covers fundamental concepts of GIS. The class is designed for those with little or no knowledge of GIS. Some of the topics covered include:

Basic map navigation
GIS organizational issues
Introduction to spatial analysis
Overview of GIS efforts in Oakland County

Basics of ArcGIS. This class is generally taught every other month on the third or fourth Wednesday of the month from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is a full day course. Prospective students should have a thorough understanding of the fundamental GIS concepts presented in the introductory Fundamentals of GIS class. The class will cover basic GIS functionality of ArcMap and ArcCatalog, including:
GIS data manipulation
GIS data formats (shapefiles, geodatabase, etc.)
Map generation
Working with spatial and non-spatial data

Introduction to ArcGIS I. This is a two day course that will be offered periodically throughout the year.
Here begins the foundation for becoming a successful ArcView, ArcEditor, or ArcInfo user. This course covers fundamental GIS concepts as well as how to query a GIS database, manipulate tabular data, edit spatial and attribute data, and present data clearly and efficiently using maps and charts. Participants learn how to use ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox, and explore how these applications work together to provide a complete GIS software solution.
Display feature and tabular data
Work with georeferenced spatial data
Query features using logical expressions
Find features using spatial relationships
Edit spatial and attribute data
Associate tables with joins and relates
Produce maps, reports, and graphs
