Oakland County Signs Agreement with FEMA to Improve Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs)
The GIS Utility recently solicited and received funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to improve the currency and accuracy of Oakland Countys Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). In summary, current funding amounts will be used to inventory existing engineering studies present within the County, to re-delineate the flood boundaries in two pilot geographic townships, and to produce revised preliminary Digital FIRMs.
On December 3, 2002, the Oakland County GIS Utility will be hosting a kickoff meeting at 10:00 AM in the Board of Commissioners Auditorium (1200 N Telegraph Rd, Bldg 12 E, Pontiac MI 48341). The scope of the project, a tentative schedule, and other related issues will be discussed at the kickoff meeting. The kickoff meeting will also be an opportunity to gather feedback and comments from interested parties.
Active participation by local communities and other stakeholders will be vital to the success of this project. Furthermore, the GIS Utility looks forward to facilitating discussion and working with interested parties to improve the quality of the FIRMs. To that end, feel free to share this invitation with other appropriate contacts within your organization.
