Oakland County Celebrates GIS Day 2007!


GIS Day LogoOakland County is celebrating GIS Day on Wednesday, November 14, 2007. GIS Day provides an international forum for users of geographic information systems (GIS) technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society.

Oakland County develops many products using GIS.  These products can aid citizens and businesses by providing current county wide data such as golf course locations, land use, county parks, and more that can be navigated and printed!

There are a variety of maps available online, including static land use andAdobe Acrobat Reader school district maps, as well as on-line interactive maps including the following:

GIS products available at the Oakland County campus

The One Stop Shop was developed from a recommendation out of the Oakland County Business Roundtable to provide citizens and businesses with a central point of access to planning and economic development information.

The One Stop Shop  specializes in providing citizens and businesses access to current geographic information including current parcel maps, aerial photography (dating back to 1963) and demographic information.  Visit the One Stop Shop and use OAKMap, a computerized mapping system that allows users to create a custom map showing parcel lines overlaid on an aerial photograph at a variety of different sizes.

GIS Day 2006

Last year's GIS Day was celebrated with the presentation of a Map Atlas which contained GIS-based maps that were created by Oakland County departments and communities. If you haven't already, please take some time to view their hard work!
