Hike the Oakland County Parks


Note:  Cyclists and in-line skaters prohibited on unpaved natural trails and park roads. Park entry fee required.*

ADDISON OAKS
1480 West Romeo Road, near Oxford

Hours: 8 a.m. - sunset; open year-round

More than 7.5 miles of scenic hiking trails begin between the Beachfront Pavilion and concession building and head west of Adams Lake, the conference center and contact station.
  Buhl Lake Trail, a 2.5 mile, paved multi-use trail, is accessible near the concession building. Note: Buhl Lake Trail is not cleared of snow in winter.
  Equestrian trails are also available.

GROVELAND OAKS

Hike, walk or roll on the new three-quarter-mile paved Thread Creek Trail.

HIGHLAND OAKS

Park is undeveloped, but hiking, mountain biking and cross-country skiing allowed on 1.5 mile mowed trail

INDEPENDENCE OAKS

Hike more than 13 miles of challenging trails rated among Michigans best trails by "50 Hikes in Lower Michigan" travel book.

The 1.4-mile Hawk's View and the new 2.2-mile River Loop Trail are multi-use trails that may be used for walking, jogging, cycling and in-line skating. Walkers and joggers can access the park's non-paved trails from various points along Hawk's View. Note:  Hawk's View and River Loop are not cleared of snow in winter.
  The All-Visitors Trail, adjacent to the boathouse, is a 1/4 mile asphalt path accessible to wheelchairs and features an observation deck overlooking Crooked Lake. This trail and the Habitat Trail near the Nature Center are open for hiking year-round.

LYON OAKS

Hours: ½ hour before sunrise - ½ hour after sunset; open year-round

Hike along 3.5 miles of easy, flat, crushed stone trails winding through wet forests and open meadows.

ORION OAKS

Take a leisurely stroll on a network of five miles of marked trails or try the hiking achievement trail. Trailheads at Baldwin and Clarkston Roads parking lots. (No roadside parking allowed)

ROSE OAKS

Parking on Buckhorn Road and Fish Lake Road. Nearly four miles of winding trails starting from Fish Lake Trailhead lead to quiet, isolated lakes and wetlands. Some hills provide a challenge, but most of the trails are gently rolling.

WATERFORD OAKS

An asphalt trail parallels the road to Lookout Lodge and loops through wooded areas; or start at the Court Games Complex and hike the woods on a marked trail composed of crushed stone, wood chips and packed earth. Trailheads are located at Court Games Complex and Pine Grove Picnic area. No entry fee for trail use.

Required for all locations except Waterford Oaks.
