Market Research Group


The Market Research Group promotes Oakland County as the place to live, work, play and prosper for businesses and citizens. The Division's team of experts and its resources are promoted to residents and to the business community as part of and support for economic development initiatives.

Data about Oakland County and its competitors is analyzed and synthesized to form the basis of marketing strategies.Demographic, socio-economic and business information products produced by Marketing & Research support and assist communities, businesses and governments with their information needs.

Research support is provided to several County departments and divisions to support the development of  promotional materials to assist the County in its missions and programs. 

Data Products:

County Data Book: Yearly publication of the County Databook; an extensive compendium of information about Oakland County

Community Profiles:  A biennial publication of facts and figures about Oakland County's local communities. This information resource is distributed to County Commissioners, all local communities, county libraries, industrial and commercial developers, and economic partners among others.

American Community Survey & Census Bureau data: Generate and distribute new population reports. Designated your local State Data Center affiliate charged with dissemination of core Census data and product releases.

Data Tracking: Compile and update list of major employers, foreign firms, high-tech firms, new development projects, labor market, and other core economic-based indicators.

Promotional Materials:

Marketing Products: Assist in the development of brochures and various forms of marketing and digital media that promote Oakland County to businesses, investors and local citizens.

Live, Work, Play and Prosper Video: Created a promotional video designed to attract new businesses and workers.

Research:

Spearheaded the Emerging Sectors Initiative by identifying the next generation of international growth industries which resulted in a new economic development program.

Prepare competitive advantage reports, compile and analyze data and produce presentations in support of new business attraction projects.

Track all non-residential development in Oakland County in support of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation's annual site selection competition. This has led to a designation by Site Location Magazine as a leading state for economic development growth for eight years in a row.

Prepare analysis and data for the County's Biennial Budget Book and the Yearly Financial Services summary report.

Assisted in planning for the 2004 Ryder Cup and compiled a post-event economic impact analysis.
