Community Planning for Natural Resource Protection
The Role of Community Planning in Natural Resources Management
Conservation and management of our natural resources requires pro-active community planning, sensible regulatory measures, and appropriate development design standards. Community Planning Tools such as master plans, zoning ordinances, and subdivision regulations can be used to address the conservation and management of natural resources, as well as guide sustainable and profitable development within our communities.

Community Planning Inventory
Created by the Oakland County Environmental Stewardship Group, The Community Planning Inventory Checklist can be used by communities to assess the extent to which their current planning and regulatory documents enable local conservation and management of Green Infrastructure and natural resources.
Communities participating in Oakland County's Green Infrastructure Visioning process are encouraged to complete the Community Planning Inventory as an exercise that will assist them in adopting additional planning and regulatory measures to guide and implement local green infrastructure goals and objectives.
