Green River Corridor Workshop
Planning for Your Community's Riparian Resources: Unveiling A Priority Green River Corridor Vision in Oakland County's Subwatersheds
A follow-up workshop to unveil Oakland County's Priority Green River Corridor Vision Map and multimedia website was held on October 5th, 2007 at the Southfield Public Library.
Elizabeth Riggs from the Huron River Watershed Council shared the results of HRWCs Riparian Buffer Initiative Project. Information about the value of riparian buffers, a model ordinance for protecting riparian buffers, challenges with ordinance implementation and enforcement, as well as non-regulatory approaches to implementing riparian buffers were discussed.
Planning for Your Community's Riparian Resources: A Workshop to Envision Green River Corridors in Oakland County's Subwatersheds
On May 18, 2007 stakeholders from across Oakland Countys watersheds came together for a Green River Cooridor Workshop to identify the priority river corridors that provide the following benefits:
Significant wildlife habitat and biodiversity protection
Significant water quality protection
Community amenity including scenic, recreation, historical or cultural value
Information collected during the workshop was used to develop a vision map that identifies priority green river corridors in Oakland County. The following links contain maps showing the preliminary results identified at the workshop.
