Downtown Franklin

Downtown Franklin is located in Southern Oakland County, along Franklin Road, between Thirteen Mile and Fourteen Mile Roads.  Approximately 1.5 miles west of Telegraph Road (US-24), the center of Franklin is about three miles north of I-696 & two miles northeast of M-10 (Northwestern Highway).

Mission: To enhance and revitalize the Village Center through a partnership of government officials, business people, and civic leaders.  The goals of the cooperative will be to attract new businesses, promote existing establishments, and build a strong economic base all while maintaining Franklin's historic character and rural atmosphere. 

Description:  Amidst surrounding development, the residential community of 2.7 square miles has successfully maintained a rural atmosphere with winding roadways, tall trees, and clapboard buildings, all lending to the description as "the town that time forgot."  Originally a farming community, the Village of Franklin evolved into a prosperous bedroom community for the auto and other industries in Metro Detroit with a population of nearly 3,000.  In later years, Franklin became well known for its cider mill.  To this day, generations from Oakland County and beyond visit the mill each fall. 

Establishing a National Historic District in 1969 and in 1971 as the first local historic district in Michigan under Public Act 169 of 1970, Franklin has homes dating since the early 1830s as well as some unique contemporary architecture.  These homes surround a quaint business area with a collection of specialty shops, services and businesses, the village offices, library, a historic cemetery, and picturesque village green.
