Downtown Walled Lake

Walled Lake Community Education Center

Downtown Walled Lake is located on the north shore of Walled Lake, approximately 3 miles north of I-696, at the crossroads of Maple Road, Pontiac Trail and Walled Lake Drive in south, central Oakland County.

Mission: To promote and market Downtown Walled Lake as an economic unit through media placements, special events, cooperative advertising, community brochures and other activities.  Also, to retain existing businesses by serving as a liaison between business and government and assisting expansion efforts while recruiting new businesses to benefit the community.

Description: Downtown Walled Lake and the entire DDA District combine a historic lakefront business district with a commercial corridor along Pontiac Trail and Maple Road.  A wide variety of specialty retail, quality customer service, restaurants, service and office businesses, together with special events and promotions, attract shoppers and visitors from a wide market area.  The historic lakefront area contains a variety of late nineteenth century architecture and the historic Walled Lake Schools Community Education Building, originally the first consolidated school in Michigan, built in 1922, stands watch over the community from its stately position on Pontiac Trail.  Historic district neighborhoods are adjacent to the historic lakefront business area on East and West Walled Lake Drive adding further to the City's unique sense of place.
