Past, Present, & Future

If only these walls could talk, you would hear stories about generations of the children of Hattiesburg and how they've grown up over the years.  These walls have seen over 5 decades of freshmen walk through the front door for the first time.  They probably laughed every time someone got lost or had to walk the flag pole after school. 

The crew was able to complete all of the goals and tasks that were laid out for the project.  Every room in the building has been cleaned out and there is a hollow sound when you walk down the hallway.  Now, the crew is putting the finishing touches on the building both inside and out before the final walk through for the Hattiesburg project team members.

The fond memories of the high school from those who have attended in years past, have given us a different perspective and greater appreciation for all of the sweat and elbow grease during the cleanup.  We were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to work with current USM students that were excited and hopeful to see the Old Hattiesburg High School transform into their new home.

If these walls could talk they could tell you about the thirty-eight volunteers that entered through the front door and began another chapter in the Old Hattiesburg High School history.  For five days they got to witness everyone get lost in the hallways and work together as a team to accomplish their goal.   Many of these thirty-eight people arrived trangers and are leaving as friends.  

As we board the bus tomorrow and say our goodbyes to our new Hattiesburg friends, we will never forget the southern hospitality, hard work, and the feeling of accomplishment.  Many of us hope to have the opportunity to return in the near future to see this project complete and being utilized as the new home for the USM Art Department.
