Grant Writing for Local Governments - Workshops Hosted by Oakland County

Oakland County is hosting two grant writing workshops in September, 2008 for grant writers from the County's cities, villages, townships (CVTS) and schools.

The cost of hosting the workshop is being paid for by the Oakland County CCIRF Program, though there is a $25 administrative fee. Attendees may be either seasoned or novice grant writers, as well as administrative or elected officials.

The goals of these workshops are to:

  • Provide attendees with a detailed introduction to the process, structure, and skill of professional proposal writing.
  • Educate the attendees on why grant application writing is an opportunity for generating support, i.e., storytelling, and thereby opening up a new funding avenue.
  • Provide attendees a networking opportunity with their peer CVTs and the County. Individuals from numerous communities often apply for the same or similar grants. Applying together should increase the chances of receiving awards.
  • Provide attendees with a solid understanding of the ideal grant application structure.
  • Provide attendees with interactive exercises and activities to practice the skills they will be learning.
  • Teach attendees the basics of foundation, corporation, and government grant research. Attendees will be exposed to online/database research tools, publications, and directories that contain information about foundation, corporation, and government grant opportunities.
