A bystander who administered CPR when a man had a heart attack while working out at a fitness club.
A mom who lost her daughter in a water craft accident, then embarked on a mission to save others from the same fate.
A woman on vacation who assisted an injured man.
They were among an impressive list of citizens honored May 9 for assisting law enforcement and everyday people in need.
In conjunction with National Peace Officers Memorial Day, Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard awarded citizen citations and honored members of the law-enforcement community for significant efforts over the past year.
The incidents involved everything from a school threat to arson, murder, identity theft and bank robbery. Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett was on hand to congratulate recipients from the city. Among those honored were:
Catherine Fournier and Andrew Gould, each for intervening to save a life in Rochester Hills by administering CPR.
Kevin Cumming, Deborah Price and Samuel Rogalski, for their assistance in solving an arson at Adams High School.
Sharon Sinnaeve, a graduate of the city's Community Emergency Response Team program who assisted a man trapped in a car that ran off a highway, flipped and crashed.
Jan Iserman, a Hills resident whose daughter, Ashleigh, was killed at a graduation party while driving a personal water craft, for starting a marine safety education program.
Richard Chambers of Rochester Hills, for his assistance in apprehending a stalker.
The detectives in the sheriff's Rochester Hills substation, for their conviction rate while dealing with a rapidly increasing workload: Herman Bishop, Mark Buffa, Brian Kreilach, John Neph, David See, Terrence Somerville and Jeffery Wooster.
Reserve Sgt. Matthew Bunker of Oakland Township, for longtime service and commitment to the community.
Deputies Harry Joseph and James Kavalick of the sheriff's Rochester Hills substation, for professional excellence. Bouchard called them two of the most productive employees assigned to the patrol division.
Deputies Glen Walker and Curtis Overby, for apprehending the suspects in a November 2006 murder at Bozana's party store.
State Police Trooper Matt Kiser, for catching a home-invasion suspect who had escaped from custody in Rochester Hills. akingsbury@hometownlife.com (248) 651-7575, ext. 17
